Audrey Wood

Audrey Wood

Audrey Wood has an amazing variety of children's books.  You will find it very easy to use a variety of craft in her books to teach the Six Traits of Writing. Below is a picture of just a few of her books.

After reading several of Audrey Wood’s books we made a graphic organizer noticing all of the similar traits we found in each of the books.  This was a great visual to capture the characteristics of the books we read and formulate a great conversation based on what we noticed.  It was also a good time to teach and review concepts such as alliteration, rhyme, onomatopoeia, and more.  After reading all of her books I the students were then asked to think of which four stories they would most like to write like.  After we had the top four stories I created a choice-board for the class.  They were then able to choose which activity they wanted to create.  The choice-board then served as a checklist of the skills they needed to include.   Below is a picture of the graphic organizer we created along with the reproducible of the choice-board.
